PARTICIPATION IN RESEARCH STUDIES ON THE BENEFITS OF YOGA FOR HEALTH CONDITIONS

GRATITUDE:

Several Mindbody Wellness tutors were involved with the delivery of the grant-funded pilot research classes for  BWYQ’s Yoga for Generalised Anxiety Disorder (YOGAD) programme in 2024We are grateful to the hard work of the BWYQ trustees and staff and all the learners who volunteered to be enthusiastic participants during the 12 weeks of classes at five different sites in Yorkshire.

BWYQ has graciously shared their video where beginner student Mike is demonstrating the accompanying home practice sheet below, a sequence created by one of the research study teachers Michelle Griffiths, with handouts, drawings, and video production created by volunteers Jenny Howsam and Laura Bissell.

Mindbody Wellness is pleased to announce that it will be piloting the launch of the Teaching Yoga for Generalised Anxiety Disorder in Autumn 2026, now that it is on Ofqual’s Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF).

RESEARCH REPORTS:

CHAIR-BASED YOGA FOR OLDER ADULTS WITH MULTI-MORBIDITY – THE GENTLE YEARS YOGA TRIAL

Two further research reports were published in March 2025

First, read the full report on the Perceptions and experiences of chair-based yoga by older adults with multimorbidity – a qualitative process evaluation of the Gentle Years Yoga randomised controlled trial” published in BMC GERIATRICS (5 March 2025) here: bit.ly/4hytTT3Then read the second report, bearing in mind that halfway through the first wave of the trial, the Covid pandemic forced a lockdown which meant the face-to-face classes could no longer continue.    Skeptics  said the older adults would not be able to make this switch, but thanks to the yoga consultants from BWYQ Laura Bissell and Jenny Howsam , the transition to online delivery was smooth and even preferred by many of the older adults who were taking part in the trial classes.  For full details, see the report on “The Acceptability and feasibility of online delivery of chair-based yoga for older adults with multimorbidity – lessons from a process evaluation of the gentle years yoga trial”, published in BMC COMPLEMENTARY MEDICINE AND THERAPIES” (17 March 2025) here: bit.ly/3DKaNeI

If short on time, the two abstracts below summarise the findings.
