UNIT 2 – TY Applied Anatomy and Physiology

Unit 2 is about Applied Anatomy and Physiology (A&P).   Along with work in other units, you will be studying the required topics in Unit 2 to gain the knowledge needed to meet the occupational standards and you will learn how to apply this knowledge when instructing yoga students.  By the end of this unit, you will teach an asana to your peers (course colleagues), which will be a formative assessment.   This informal assessment of your practice teaching gives you the opportunity to develop the communication skills needed to teach actual yoga students by the end of Unit 4.  This is when you provide the evidence for the observation by a qualified assessor of your Assessed Class Teaching (ACT) while teaching members of the public.  This is called the summative assessment of your practical skills.

Through home study of videos, interactive quizzes,  handouts, assessed and non-assessed worksheets and the practical sessions with your tutor, Unit 2 explores the required A&P topics, including Posture and Core Stability, the Musculoskeletal System, Cardiorespiratory System,  Nervous System, Energy System, Endocrine system and the impact of exercise as it relates to yoga.

Starting with Posture and Core Stability, your tutor or assessor will be collecting evidence of the completed assessment criteria as you work through the knowledge topics in Unit 2.
